Acrobaby

Kaia,

I am not entirely sure what you're doing in there, but from the feel of it you're completely spazzing out. I thought you might kick a bit and I'd feel a little bump here and there, but you are either hitting me with every limb you've got or doing perpetual somersaults. You do not appear to be the lethargic type.

With that said, in typical Watson fashion, you do not appear to like being told what to do. You are in constant movement unless someone else wants to feel you, in which case you cease all movements immediately. We've tricked you a few times..T's had to sneak up and replace my hands without us saying a word, and then you continue on your spaztic way. My stomach is in constant motion though, so I can prove I'm not making it up, even if you are refusing to perform on command.

You wardrobe continues to grow, you better be as small as they claim you'll be, otherwise you're going to be changing outfits at least 3 times a day. We're sticking to garage sales at the moment so at least it's not costing a fortune.

We had a 32 week check up today, as usual you seem alert and healthy. It appears you may have flipped into the right position, though given how often you're moving I don't expect that to stick for long. We talked some logistics of the big day (a topic I'm mostly trying to avoid thinking about...minus the you being here part of course). Nothing super noteworthy, just a basic overview of what happens when. We'll probably still be inducing, but they said we can talk more about that at the next appointment in 2 weeks. They did give me a TDAP booster and encouraged anyone else in close contact with you to do the same, so this is the announcement to all of you reading this...get your TDAP booster!

You're not craving much different, you seem to like cold food (smoothies and salads) more than anything. We've been doing weekly water aerobic classes with your grandmom (her name changes all the time, you may need to lay down the law when you get here)...they seem to put you to sleep which is nice.

8 more weeks baby girl, and they'll be full of baby showers and nursery building so I'm sure they'll fly by.

The Hangover

Kaia,

We survived Vegas, you held up well. We brought you to your first club (you were there for about 5 minutes), we hung out at the pool, and we did a bit of gambling. Your college fund is currently -$15. Taryn says it's not fair to blame you since you weren't in charge of pushing any buttons, and the fact that we forgot how to play craps probably didn't help either...so I guess I'll take the blame and we'll give you another shot at proving your luck when you're a bit older. You've been much less active since we got back, so I'm pretty sure you're sleeping off the Vegas hangover, but I expect you to be back at full speed in no time. We also got our first baby shower gift courtesy of Andrea (who we'll guilt into coming to Denver to meet you at some point this Summer). I think you were pretty excited about it.

We had an ultrasound today to gauge your size, you're in the 34th percentile weighing in at about 3 lbs. 10 oz. (there goes my hope of blaming you for all of this weight gain). They said that's very normal and everything looked good so we have nothing to worry about. You weren't moving a ton in there, just resting with your hand on your face:

Apparently you're breech at this point, but they said it's far too early to be concerned about that yet, you just need to get back to flipping around here sometime in the next 9 weeks or so.

You seem to be a bit of a musician, you seem to like to beat on my stomach to a beat, which is really kind of an odd sensation. I can finally see your kicks when I'm laying down, it's really a very creepy thing to watch my stomach bounce around like that, but it's good to know you're enjoying yourself in there.

I think that's about it for now, can't wait to meet you!

Falling into the routine

Baby girl,

Yesterday we had the first of several rounds of appointments that'll occur every two weeks. They don't seem to do much at these appointments. They check your heartbeat (yours was the strongest they had heard all day), measure me, weigh me, and ask if any weird things are going on.

Everything looked good, you're still looking to be a little on the small side so when I asked they said we could do an ultrasound to make sure you're right on track. I love seeing you, so we will be doing that ultrasound in a week. Nobody's worried, I'm small, your Dad's small the odds are you're just small, but I'll take any excuse I can for an ultrasound.

Otherwise, nothing new since the last post. You've been kicking like a crazy person, you seem to favor 4am, that's a habit we're going to need to discuss at some point. We head to Vegas in two days so we'll update after that.

Baby Fashion Show

Kai,

I'm getting anxious for you to get here, not because this pregnancy has been rough (I think if there were a competition for the easiest pregnancy in the world we'd be in the running), but because I have so much planned for us and I'm ready for it to start.

This anxiousness for you to get here has manifested itself into a ton of new clothes for you. You are going to be one well dressed little girl. Taryn keeps buying you shoes...since she's starting that trend I think when you develop a shoe addiction later in life it would be fair to expect her to bank roll it. It's hard buying you stuff though, even though the doctors want you to be about 6 lbs. I'm a little skeptical of their ability to control it. If you come out much bigger this newborn stuff is going to fit you for about a week. If that's the case we'll be having more outfit changes than the host at the Grammys on your first day or two. Baby fashion show!

We're heading to Vegas next weekend, it may be the least pregnant friendly location on the planet, but we'll have a good time with your Aunts. Who knows, maybe you have Taryn's lucky streak and we can win you a college fund. Gotta spend what would have been our alcohol money somewhere.

As anxious as I am to meet you, you keep cooking little pea, undercooked babies tend to have problems and we can't be having that. I'll try and keep my excitement at bay until you get here, but once you have a nursery I can make no promises on how well I'll keep it under control. See you soon little fashionista!

Vegas Bound

Baby Girl,

I had them double check, you are most definitely a girl, which is a huge relief because you would be one femininely dressed boy if you decided to shock us. We bumped up our appointment a week so we could get doctor approval to go to Vegas for your Aunt Angie's bachelorette party. While we won't be able to do much in the way of normal celebrating, we did get the all clear on making the trip.

Easter was on Sunday, it's the last Kaia-less Easter we'll have, you will get your first taste of the joys of egg hunting next year. I gotta tell you though, your cousins (or second cousins, or cousins once removed) are very competitive, I'm not sure your lack of walking skills is going to cut you much slack. We'll probably have to get you training a few months early. Since you were here in spirit you did get your first Easter basket courtesy of Popo and Grammie (Sorry if that's wrong Merry, I'm pretty sure that's what we were going with for you). Here are the goods:

You'll be well outfitted little one.

So the appointment went great as always, you appear to be the easiest fetus on the planet. Everything is on track, and you look perfectly healthy (as do I). We're going to start going in every two weeks, but they sound to be pretty boring appointments. This one was fun as I got to see you again. You were scouting yourself out pretty thoroughly in this appointment, you started by grabbing your feet then progressed to feeling your nose, I knew you had to be doing some weird stuff in there..you seem to move a lot, but it's not always the kicking variety.

Anyway, we are both healthy and happy (pretty sure you're making a happy sorta face in that top one) and Vegas bound. Can't wait to meet you little one!

Looking the part

Kaia,

I've mostly been sticking to updates that came from doctors appointments, but it was brought to my attention that this may not be the only updates family/friends are wanting to hear.

You're still doing amazingly well, despite a stressful past couple of weeks. Things appear to be calming down (though I think you're as sick of tax season as I am). I can't wait to be done with it though, we have a registry to create and a nursery to get ready, both of which sound exceptionally exiciting to me.

We've ventured into the world of maternity clothes lately, it's funny how much more pregnant I look/feel when I actually play the part. I'm still partially terrified you're going to kick so hard that it'll show in these tight shirts, which seems very alien-esque to me, but you're not quite there yet.

Your Aunt Taryn (Aun-T) has also been requiring weekly updates as to your size from one of my many pregnancy apps. This week you're a cucumber, which has her a bit distraught as everyone knows that "cucumbers are boring unless they are dipped in ranch, and you are not being dipped in ranch". See...she's looking out for you already. Even if she already has plans for you to become the world's youngest crossfitter (don't worry, I've banned workouts for you until you can control the weight of your own head, but past that I think you're on my own my dear...you'll learn soon enough, T tends to get her way).

I do want to tell you kid, you are extremely lucky to be born into this family. For all of their quirks and the mess that is our family tree, they are the absolute best family on the planet. Any one of them would be there for us in a heartbeat, and the amount of support I've gotten has been amazing. We have had our struggles, but we are still coming out way ahead in the fairness game when you count the family we were given. Don't ever forget it baby girl.

Can't wait to meet you!

The Bump

It's official baby girl, you're finally big enough that I look pregnant. Besides growing immensely, you've been kicking up a storm this past month (hard to believe you could put on all that wait with that much exercise). You're still pretty easy going when it comes to food...you are a big fan of anything fruit, but fortunately for you and my waistline..you've kept your sweet cravings to confined to the non candy form. That's not to say you don't appreciate some frozen yogurt from time to time....

So, this is not likely to be my favorite picture anytime soon, but by popular demand for the many of you who haven't seen me since I've gone into tax season hiding...

I'll go get some maternity clothes in the near future, living in sweats is not the most flattering (even if it is the most comfortable) life style choice.

It's been a rough week for us Kaia. One of my close coworkers, Becki, lost her fight to lung cancer in an unexpectedly quick end. She was very excited to meet you and I'm sad that you'll never get that chance. We also officially moved in with your Dad and brothers, and we've been working up a storm (you're quite the accountant kid). Somehow we got in an appointment so here's the rundown:

You're doing great as always, heart beat sounded great and your growth is on track. Since I'm on blood thinners we have some more complicated issues to deal with around your birth so we talked a little bit about that. Assuming everything is developing as it should and I progress at a normal rate we'll probably induce around 39 weeks (June 22nd/23rd ish). We have a lot more time to talk about that, but for now that's the very tentative plan. Otherwise we're happy and healthy and due back in a month.

Otherwise it's just been a lot of working, some prenatal yoga, and as much sleep as I can fit in. We did fit in a trip to a consignment store where I bought you a couple of cute outfits, hats, bows (you will be one well accessorized baby), etc. I can't wait to see you in them :) One more month until the end of tax season and then we'll get going on your Dr. Seuss themed nursery. Can't wait to meet you Kaia!
